The Great Wall of China is the longest wall in the world, most people know this. But did you know that the second longest wall in the world is in our India. The length of the Great Wall of China is about 8400 km. India has the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.



Where is it located


This wall is located in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan and is known as Kumbhalgarh fort. Due to the excellent structure and length of this fort, it has got the status of 'Great Wall of India'.



What does history say ?


Kumbhalgarh fort was built by Maharana Kumbha in the 15th century. It took 15 long years to build. The great ruler Maharana Pratap was born in this fort in the 16th century. Maharana Pratap lived in this fort for a long time after the Haldi-valley war.


What are the features?


There are more than 360 temples inside the fort, of which about 300 are ancient Jain temples and the rest are other temples. To enter the fort there are seven huge gates like Aarethpole, Hallapole, Hanumanpole and Vijaypal etc. Kumbhalgarh fort is located at an altitude of about 1100 m above sea level.


How long is this wall?


The wall is about 36 kilometers long and 15 meters wide. It is said that up to 10 horses can run here simultaneously.


City Wall of Kumbhalgarh


These walls surrounding Kumbhalgarh are called 'City Wall'. At night torches are lit around the walls, the light of which illuminates the entire wall.
